I’m back

from mexico.  My family and I stayed at an all-inclusive hotel, and thus enjoyed endless cocktails—including my personal favorite, the caipiriña—and damn good mexican cuisine.  There was one unfortunate night where I got so drunk I was walked to my room by the bartender. I learned a lot about the general immutability of human nature through attempting to converse in garbled Spanish and German. (There were a surprising amount of international tourists, including Germans, Canadians, and lovely Brits). I did NOT get Montezuma’s revenge. I DID do some amazing things, of which I will now enumerate and will augment with lovely pictures (hopefully by next weekend):

1.Held a spiny starfish and a conch, while 15 feet underwater (see #6)

2.Visited Mayan ruins on the coast of Tulum

3.Swam in the world’s largest natural aquarium

4.Swam through a grotto

5.Visited an underwater cave at low tide

6.Visited a coral reef on a “Scuba-doo”—a one-person submarine that is like a hybrid of a Vespa and a space suit, in which your entire body is exposed to the water, with the exception of your head which is encased in a clear plastic bubble so that you may view and touch the surroundings without the loopholes of scuba certification and the flying restrictions (you don’t get the bends).

7.Saw the most amazing poi and fire acrobatics show—it really defies description.

8.Met two lovely, polite British chaps (needless to say, I was socially awkward, almost to the point of mental retardation)

9. Saw 4 sea turtles, barracuda, dolphins, parrot fish, and a multitude of other small slimy fishies and anemones.

10.Dove off a cliff

I miss it a little, but  I can honestly say I’m happy to return to my work.  Isn’t it sad that I’m growing accustomed to endless busyness?
